Volunteer & Employer Relations Manager

Talent Manager

Position Summary 

The Volunteer & Employer Engagement Manager is a new position responsible for developing and managing a robust volunteer program while simultaneously cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with local employers. This role ensures that volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, scheduled, and retained, and that employer partnerships result in meaningful opportunities for participants, including employment connections, job shadowing, and internships for youth.

Key Responsibilities – Volunteer Management
● Recruit, onboard, train, and retain a diverse and committed volunteer base.
● Develop and implement standardized procedures for volunteer engagement and management.
● Schedule volunteers to support programs, events, and organizational needs.
● Provide ongoing communication, recognition, and support to ensure a positive volunteer experience.
● Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation and impact recorded in the CRM database.
● Evaluate and improve volunteer systems and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities – Employer Engagement
● Build and maintain strong relationships with employers across the region.
● Position program graduates as a preferred talent pipeline for employers.
● Develop partnerships that provide job shadowing and internship opportunities, particularly for youth programs. ● Maintain regular communication with employer partners to understand workforce needs.
● Collaborate closely with program staff.

Qualifications
● Experience in volunteer management, workforce development, or employer relations strongly preferred.
● Experience working with a CRM database, Salesforce a plus.
● Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
● Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
● Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
● Comfortable taking direction while also demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.

Work Environment & Expectations
● This is an exempt position.
● This position is on-site.
● Occasional evening hours are required.
● Must be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
● Demonstrates professionalism in dress and manner.

Position Summary 

Partner with participants to support their journey toward stable employment and long-term success. Through coaching, training, and collaboration with the StepUp Wilmington team, this role helps individuals build confidence, strengthen skills, and achieve meaningful career goals while living out SUW’s values.

Key Responsibilities
● Build meaningful relationships with participants, modeling and reinforcing SUW values while fostering trust, leadership, open communication, and confidentiality.
● Partner with job seekers throughout their full career journey in Job Readiness and CareerUp training: provide individualized coaching, resume support, job leads, and consistent encouragement to help them achieve their employment goals.
● Use the REACH score as a collaborative tool to help participants identify strengths and growth opportunities.
● Walk alongside participants in completing and reviewing Individual Development Trackers, setting goals together and celebrating progress toward increased stability and success.
● Support a structured and positive learning environment by staying organized, proactive, and aligned with SUW values.
● Collaborate with staff and volunteers to design and facilitate engaging trainings that align with career readiness objectives and organizational mission.
● Leverage technology (Salesforce, Google Drive, and other platforms) to track impact, measure growth, and share insights with the team — ensuring data remains accurate and meaningful.
● Contribute actively to a supportive team culture, stepping in where needed to help the organization meet shared goals and live out the SUW mission.
● Take pride in helping make StepUp Wilmington an empowering place for participants, partners, and teammates alike.

Qualifications
● Brings 2–5 years of experience in recruitment, human resources, workforce development, or a related field.
● Is comfortable using Microsoft and Google applications and eager to learn new systems (Salesforce experience is a plus).
● Communicates clearly and compassionately, both verbally and in writing.
● Enjoys facilitating and engaging diverse groups in meaningful discussion and growth.
● Has experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and demonstrates cultural humility.
● Leads with empathy, optimism, and a passion for helping others succeed.
● Brings a sense of humor and thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven team environment.
● Is available to work 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, with occasional evening or weekend events as part of supporting participants and team initiatives.
